Energy Audit - Talon Business Center
Project Overview
The Talon Business Center is comprised of three separate, adjacent buildings on the same lot with steam supplied from a central boiler. The combined total square feet of space is 222,700. The project was to provide a study of the space heating system of the Talon Business Center and recommendations for building and system upgrades to provide annual energy savings. The data used for the report were collected from a single meter that monitored fuel to both the district heating system and domestic hot water boilers.
Recommended renovation of the buildings of the Talon Business Center includes: application of spray on insulation to the exterior walls and roofs, replacement of original windows with energy efficient insulated windows, installation of a new steam boiler, and consolidation of businesses so that portions of the facility can be left idle.
Services Provided
Wilson Engineering Services (WES) provided an audit of energy usage of the complex as well as a detailed evaluation of operations at the facility. WES developed recommendations for renovations to provide annual energy savings, along with capital cost estimates and estimates of annual savings. WES prepared and submitted a grant application requesting 25% of the project capital costs. The overall project allows for a positive annual cash flow to the Talon Business Center through low interest financing.
